Preparing for
the Program

In addition to allowing you to fulfill your court-mandated obligations, the intent of Wellness Driver Intervention Program is to help you understand the role that alcohol and other mood altering chemical substances play in your life, and the issues with drinking and driving. We hope this will help you take the first steps toward building a positive lifestyle.

To help you get the most out of this weekend, we ask that you follow these guidelines. Please give us a call if you have any questions:

  • Do not use alcohol or illegal drugs for at least 72 hours prior to being admitted to the program.
  • Cell phones and laptops are permitted but must be kept in your room at all times.
  • Pack as if you are going away for a three-day weekend (dress is casual). Bring your own toiletries. Linens are provided by the hotel.
  • Be aware that your luggage will be searched during the Thursday evening intake process. Any alcohol-based products will be examined and might be held by staff. Should this happen, they will be returned to you at the end of the program.
  • Prescription and/or over-the-counter medication must be in its original container and the label must be clearly legible. Bring only enough medication to last for the 72-hour weekend program.
  • No mood altering substances are permitted unless they have been prescribed by a physician and are approved by our staff nurse.
  • You may bring snacks and soft drinks. There are vending machines where you may buy snacks.
  • Bring your court case number and attorney information.
  • If administered to you, bring results of your blood alcohol and/or urine levels. If you register(ed) online, please provide this information on the registration form.
  • Neither Wellness DIP nor the hotel will be responsible for cars in the parking lot or their contents. If you must keep your car at the program site, be sure to remove any valuables.
  • The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services requires that you complete 72 consecutive hours of driver intervention education. Therefore, if you must leave early before completing our program, you will be required to return and complete a new 72-hour class in its entirety. You will not be refunded your money for the class that you did not complete and you will be responsible for the additional cost of completing another program.
